What made this run special
Specs from the 2004-09-12 squierguitars.com spec sheet. OPEN QUESTION: the Aug 2003 pricelist descriptor reads "Tele Custom, maple" while this sheet says Rosewood — the detailed sheet wins the field, but a 2003-era capture could reveal an earlier maple-board configuration. Run end (2006) inferred from the 2007 catalog's changed specs; exact transition month not documented. Factory not yet established from sources.
What changed
The first Vintage Modified instrument: listed from August 1, 2003 at $332.99 under a "Vintage Modified" pricelist heading, four years before the VM series proper.
